Comments: Nice news update today from DSHL – the one-stop supplier for the automotive and other industries, today said it expected to see an “inevitable recovery” in world market revenues to near “pre-automotive market crash levels” as its last quarterly report has demonstrated a quarter on quarter improvement in total sales. DIAS Holding’s sales topped $14.4 million in 2008 before turmoil in the world auto sector caused the company to experience what it now believes was a temporary slowdown in total revenues – read full news release. Companies like American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AXL) and Dana Holding Corp. (NYSE:DAN) (see charts below) have already seen very strong rebounds and its only a matter of time before DSHL follows suit.

Microcap Madness

Its that time again – I’m seeing microcap madness in the markets in the last week or so. Lots of great runners like FRP, TKO, VG, ZHNE and the list goes on. Currently we are in CVM, one of our favorite microcap biotechs and we just purchased some AI (currently .49/sh) – a financial that has lagged for some time. Every time the broad markets start to fail we are seeing financials run hard. No need to fight the tape, so as financials are running hard, we are buying them.

Comments: CVRG hit .145 today, that’s a 383% gain from when we started covering it on April 15! Today the Company announced that it completed a major acquisition of the Benson Lake Gold property.

The Benson Lake Gold property is situated at Skead Township 12 miles South-East of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada. The Kirkland Lake mining area remains the number one mining area in Ontario. The property consists of one hundred contiguous claim units. A seven-hole diamond drill program was completed by Ryan Lake Metals Ltd. on the Skead Township property during 1994. The highest drill hole at the site yielded high grade gold assays as high as 1.69 oz/ton/1.5 ft.
President & CEO, Bryan Gonzales, commented, “It is our belief that the Benson Lake property has significant potential, it also adds value to our growing portfolio. We were highly motivated to complete the acquisition after doing our comprehensive due diligence and reviewing prior drilling results.”

Comments: CVRG is getting huge attention today and it is trading very well. CVRG is a gold company which has a Joint Venture deal with Sarissa Resources Inc (OTC: SRSR) on a gold property in Northern Ontario, Canada. SRSR was a 400% gainer for us, so we’e hopeful CVRG can do the same for us.

The JV property, The O’Connor Asquith, resides in Asquith and Churchill Townships consists of 16 claims, approximately 640 acres (1 square mile) and has significant historical gold showings.

In addition, Converse Global, Inc. (CVRG-OTC) has retained an accountant to bring all the companies’ management prepared filings up to date.

Comments: Started breaking out today – DSHL’s clients include huge names in the auto parts sector and all of them are doing very well including affinia/raybestos brakes, DANA , EATON and DELPHI.

BCON Success, Ethanol Plays, Uranium:

BCON did very well from our alert on 04/01 at .49 as it recently hit a high of .80, a +63% return over a few weeks. We’re cautiously dipping our toes into some ethanol stocks like Verenium (Nasdaq:VRNM), .36/share, since the EPA is seeking public comment on whether to allow a higher level of ethanol to be blended into gasoline. (full article). If the EPA does mandate higher amounts of ethanol in gasoline, ethanol producers may not only rise from the ashes, but rocket out.

We also took a position in Uranium Resources Inc. today (Nasdaq:URRE), .68/share as the U.S. Dollar took a heathy whack – lots of the Uranium producers were red hot today as investors continue to have a healthy appetite for commodity stocks.

Today CVRG announced that it is commencing exploration work on its O’Connor Asquith gold property in Northern, Ontario, Canada. The exploration team, managed by Sarissa Resources Inc., will begin its work on Stripped area #3 on the O’Connor Asquith gold property. Alex Korboukh, the team’s geologist, will be supervising the work. The work will consist of channel cutting and shallow drilling to allow blasting the rock in the anomalous areas previously identified in the area. Samples will be collected by the geological team and then brought to an independent assay lab for testing of the samples.

Alex Korboukh comments, “This zone, Stripped area #3, on the property has yielded gold values as high as 19 grams per ton and we want to examine the rock and the geology much more thoroughly and deeper in depth in this phase of the exploration program.”
The company will release results from the exploration of the O’Connor Asquith property as the results become available.

In addition, Converse Global, Inc. (CVRG-OTC) has retained an accountant to bring all the companies’ management prepared filings up to date.

Gold Stock Mojo

The global gold mining supply, which peaked in 2003, fell yet again this year and gold investment demand leapt as the financial crisis deepened, with a significant shift from paper certificates and derivative schemes to owning physical gold. The U.S. dollar bounced back slightly over the last couple of months (short covering from global forced liquidations?), but we have to wonder how much longer it will hold up with the amount of debt we are issuing.

Lots of gold stocks have had nice runs over the past few months and they will likely continue as the value of the U.S. dollar looks gloomy in the long-term. A few additional gold microcaps we are watching are:

Comments: Up nicely since our letter on the 26th – today the Company announced that it entered negotiations with reputable French sports distributor, Okespor to begin distribution in France.

The deal between Newron Sport and Okespor, could potentially allow Newron Sport to begin distribution in France and into Western Europe for its patented inline skates, the Touron and the Trainon.

Mr. Robert Ritondo, President of Newron Sport, stated, “We have been seeing a great amount of interest from retailers and distributors and even more so, since the Hockey Expo we did, just a few weeks ago.”

“We are very excited about the direction that Newron Sport is going and now that such a prominent distributor such as Okespor has shown great interest in distributing our product, we feel we are just gaining traction,” concluded Mr. Ritondo.

Oil Stock Success

We racked up some pretty good gains on our oil stock watch that we issued on the 26th – lots of little pockets of opportunites have yielded nice gains so far this year. Stem cells, copper stocks, oils stocks, etc. I would also start watching alternative energy stocks like Beacon Power (NASDAQ:BCON), (.49/share) over the summer – we’ve also picked up some of this one.

Going Forward – Trades for the summer

A lot of the focus will continue to be on commodities, especially oil stocks. I would expect oil prices to see a decent amount of volatility for the rest of the year, but i’m keeping my fingers crossed that we will see at least $60/barrel by late spring when driving demand peaks out. Of course, we can’t forget the Federal Reserve’s commitment to inject about $1 trillion into the economy as part of a financial rescue plan – this will cause money to move into commodities as a hedge, which we are already seeing. The thing to watch out for is when demand starts increasing as we make our way out of this financial mess; that’s when we could see oil really explode to the upside quickly, especially since OPEC is keeping supplies tight.

Comments: Today the Company announced great results from last week’s exhibit at the 2009 Let’s Play Hockey Expo that was featured in St. Paul, MN.

“This was an incredible first trade showing for Newron Sport,” said Robert Ritondo, President of Newron Sport. “Our patented Newron inline skates were very well received and the general reaction was overwhelming from individuals, retailers and distributors alike.”

Copper Stocks Success

Congrats if you caught our copper stock commentary on the 6th of this month; FCX went from $33.88 to $42.7 for a 26% return and PCU went from $14.67 to $18.74 for a 28% return. Not bad for under a month! Yes, times are tough out there, but we need to keep on focusing on these small pockets of opportunities in the market.

Comments:  Today the Company announced it appointed former National Hockey League star, Mr. Marc Fortier as Executive Sales Director and Public Relations for Newron’s expansion in North America.

Copper stocks continue to impress, providing an oasis of safety in a bumpy market
 
 

Copper prices have bounced from a low of about $1.25 in December to $1.60 today, and copper plays like FCX (FCX also is a gold producer) and PCU have rebounded accordingly.  These stocks have not only provided decent gains over the last few months, but are a relative safe-haven compared to the rest of the market lately.  In my opinion, the surge in copper prices have been due to China stockpiling the metal, not necessarily from genuine global demand (as that is rumored to be relatively weak).  I like the long-term view on commodities as the Federal Reserve seems focused on avoiding deflation, so this is a sector i’ll be watching closely this year.

Comments: NSPT is an innovative sporting goods company on the move that has a patented inline skates which allow users to execute a hockey stride on hard surface exactly the same as on ice. According to the Company, their skates are the only ones in the market that has this unique ability. We look forward to tracking this Company’s developments this year as they ramp up the distribution of this unique product. In this difficult economy, inexpensive entertainment is what people are looking for and inline skating is an affordable and enjoyable activity that will likely heat up as we approach spring.

Shipping Stocks

We’re watching some shipping stocks to lead the rally into a possible rebound (a convincing one) in the market. The Baltic Exchange Dry Index has been rising over the last couple of months while the stocks have declined sharply. A few of the dry shippers we’re watching are:

Dryships Inc. (Nasdaq:DRYS) $3.15
Freeseas Inc. (Nasdaq:FREE) $.61
Oceanfreight Inc.(Nasdaq:OCNF) .95
Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. (Nasdaq:EGLE) $3.33

This sector is very volatile so use appropriate stop loss orders. We need a sustained rally to get a decent pop on these because there is so much market risk associated with these stocks.

Sarissa Resources (OTC:SRSR)

Comments: SRSR announced today that it encountered significant grades of Niobium below the previously identified cut-off of the mineralized zone, as previously reported (Press Release Feb 17, 2009.), so good news for these guys as they continue to have excellent niobium drilling results. Bank Stock Watch

Bank stocks are very strong right now. We have been trading in and out of them and have been doing well – FITB, HBAN, BAC, and C have all been great performers. There’s some laggards worth watching in the sector that haven’t perked up yet such as:

Hudson City Bancorp (Nasdaq:HCBK), $11.18
Indpendent Bank Corp.(Nasdaq:IBCP), $1.2
Cascade Bancorp (Nasdaq:CACB) $1.58

If the larger banks continue to be strong, we should see these smaller ones pick up nicely as well.
